Bright Summer Days
What beautiful weather we are having in my little corner of the world. It’s been stunning, sunny days. Those endless summer days stretching out before me, giving a little hint of what my summer will look like.
Summer is most definitely my favourite time of year. Barbeques, beach swims, the feel of sand in between my toes, and the smell of sunblock and trees. Christmas and summer combined is perfect. It might seem strange to you from the Northern Hemisphere, to have a summery Christmas.
I love any excuse to go for a beach walk, and yesterday was just the perfect weather for it. I went early in the morning so that it wouldn’t be too hot. It was still hot.
I was lucky enough to grow up really close to the beach, so it has always been a constant in my life. I found it so hard living overseas with no beach nearby! My local beach is very close, only a 3 minute walk away!
The most important thing to do in summer is to make sure that you are sufficiently protected from the sun. I get burnt very easily (very strong sun here in NZ), and I have to wear heaps of sunblock and cover my arms from the sun. My worst nightmare is getting lots of freckles from the sun.
I couldn’t forget to get a photo at the giant throne:
When I was a kid, we’d call it the wishing chair. I had to stop there every time we walked past it so that I could make a wish. I’m still waiting for those wishes to come true, which means I can’t tell you what I wished for. It may have been something to do with fame and fortune though!
Even these days I still stop and make a wish sometimes.
