Embarrassing Moments of My Life So Far
I’m not getting any younger, so I might as well own my embarrassing moments while I can. The older I get the less embarrassed I am.
There have been some moments of my life when I made silly mistakes, mostly concerning fashion choices.
So, before I chicken out, here are some standout moments of my life:
1) That one time I flashed a supermarket.
I worked in a supermarket called New World, this was when I was a student and paying my way through uni. I pretty much lived there for 4 years. One day, my bra strap came undone. I was wearing one of the ones that had changeable straps. So, off I trot to the bathrooms to fix it up. The uniform top at this time was a zip up one. Now, that should be a warning for all. Zip up tops are the worst. I fixed the strap and went back downstairs. On my way back to checkouts (I was a checkout chick), I noticed several men jump excessively out of my way. I wondered why I was getting odd looks. My friend was working at checkouts and said ‘you do realise your top is undone and your boobs are hanging out?’ I was mortified.
2) That other time I flashed a supermarket.
It looks like there’s a bit of a theme here…but I do not make it a habit to flash supermarkets every time I go shopping. This one happened when I was at Uni. I was at the shops with my mum getting the groceries. I was wearing my favourite lace skirt (that wasn’t my favourite after this). We get to the checkouts and my mum decided that she should tell me that my skirt had static clung to my undies. She knew that it had happened the whole way through the supermarket. Thanks, mum.
3) When a guy asked me to be his girlfriend.
This was AGES ago. When I worked at New World, there was this young man who took a liking to me. We went on one date. He decided to ask me to be his girlfriend when I was on lunch break at NW…in front of everyone. I felt like I couldn’t say no, because everyone was watching. Oh, man. It was so awkward. I remember there was only one button on his shirt because all the other buttons had fallen off. He came in, sat down…his shirt floated open and his bright white tummy was shown to the universe. I was about 19 at this time, so the fact he asked me in front of everyone really astounded me! These days I wouldn’t be afraid to say no!
4) I went out with someone who dressed as a Star Trek character.
This was from online dating. He looked ok in his photos, no Star Trek costume to be seen. He then came on the date, dressed up, and proceeded to tell me how he had a room dedicated just to Star Trek.
5) When I kissed a guys ear by accident.
This actually happened in 2018. OMG, it was awful. I was aiming for his cheek, but he turned his head and I got his ear. It was really cold. I remember I hopped in my car afterwards and laughed like a maniac for five minutes, looked up and he was sitting in the car next to me. #awkward.
6) When I danced provocatively in a club and then felt like a dork.
I was having a ‘dance off’ with my friends, and I decided to do a couple of slut drops and grinds near some random guys. I realised that I am unable to dance well under the influence of alcohol.
7) When I fell asleep at an event.
I used to go to a lot of political party events back in the day. They had free champagne! I drank too much. The speaker of the house had to get me some water and then I fell asleep on the couch. My brother was with me at the time, and we went our separate ways after arriving at the event. He spent about 20 minutes looking for me, until he found me sleeping on the couch surrounded by concerned people.
8) When I fell asleep in a park.
Another time I went out with my brother. 23 December 2014. We sang Mariah Carey’s ‘I don’t want a lot for Christmas’, I thought I could fly and then I fell asleep in a park after having to get off the bus early. My brother went to get a taxi, while I was in the park, and these two guys came up to me and were trying to wake me up. They were like ‘is she dead?’. Luckily, my brother came along and told them I was ok. I got some free chips though! These guys gave me the rest of the chips to help me sober up.
Note to self: don’t go out drinking with my brother.
