Help! I have an unhealthy obsession with grey trousers at the moment. I don’t know why, I just know that they a fabulous!
An obsession with grey trousers:
I have here a short, but sweet list, of why I have an obsession with grey trousers:
- They are comfortable and cool.
- Trousers are so just so much easier to wear than skirts.
- They can be dressed up or down.
Before I moved back to New Zealand, I went on a bit of a shopping spree. A shopping spree of buying trousers.
I bought one pair of grey trousers from New Look, and another pair from Topshop.
As a teacher, I find that trousers are the most comfortable item to wear in the classroom. However, I work at a private school that has a dress code – no jeans!
The following, amazing pairs of grey trousers all have a story behind them:
The above photo shows my awesome grey trousers from New Look. These ones were the first of two that I bought in London. I was seriously on a mission as I had seen a picture, on pinterest (where I get a lot of fashion inspiration), of someone wearing grey trousers. Sadly, I can’t find that picture now, but will put it up as soon as I rediscover it (hopefully in the near future).
I spent many days looking in shops, both online and IRL, and finally decided on this pair of grey trousers from New Look. These ones were chosen simply because of the tie at the waist, and the fact that they are so comfortable. I was going to wear them on the plane back to NZ. However, I decided not to because I am always guaranteed to spill food or drink on myself.
These ones were the start of my grey trouser journey. It’s all gone downhill since then.
My next step in the grey trouser search:
Of course I couldn’t stop at the New Look pair. Don’t get me wrong; I love the New Look ones, but they weren’t exactly what I was looking for. Just imagine me doing further ‘grey trousers’ research aka furiously pinning grey trousers on pinterest. I should really have a degree in ‘how to find the best pair of trousers’.
I was just walking past the Topshop near Victoria station in London, as I had about 20 minutes before my train, and decided to pop in, seeing as the shop was quite quiet for once.
This pair on the sale rack caught my eye as they were, as you guessed, grey. They were a perfect fit…that meant they were meant to be.
As soon as I got home, I added them to my grey trouser collection, which is small at the moment, but steadily growing.
Trousers are definitely the most important part of my wardrobe. Yes, I love my dresses and skirts, but there’s just something about trousers. They make me feel like I can conquer the world.
A quick description of my Topshop grey trousers:
Where to start? My Topshop pair, that I bought in beautiful London, are soft, have an awesome waistband and are just so comfy. I call them my pyjama pants because they have that kind of look about them. But I don’t care! I wear them out and about and don’t give a stuff if they remind other people of pyjamas. When you’re a teacher you get honest opinions (that you don’t always want) from your students.
Once I did have a kid ask me if my pair of floral trousers were actually pyjama pants. I was offended for about a minute, and then I realised that he was right, they looked stunningly like pyjama pants.
So, back to Topshop:
I bought these ones because of the ’90s-esque’ look that they have. The fit and cut of trousers from the nineties are one of my favourites. If you are looking for a pair of trousers that are comfortable and cool, pop into Topshop because they definitely will have what you are looking for!
(As you can tell, these shoes are my favourites at the moment – Steve Madden silver toe cap ballet flats).
And last but not least, the ultimate trouser – the friggen amazing ASOS checked grey trousers I bought about 3 years ago:
I love this outfit and I can’t wait to wear it again this Spring. These trousers are really awesome because they fit perfectly around the waist, and then are a little looser over my hips and my legs.
Again, I’m wearing the same shoes.
Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, I have an obsession with grey trousers (at least I can admit it….that’s the first step, right?).
Even in the shops, I still gravitate towards grey trousers, even though I really need a pair of black trousers.
Have I convinced you to love grey trousers too?
I just found these ones that I am IN LOVE WITH:
