Khaite NYFW F/W 2019
If you like dresses with dramatic sleeves, fringed jackets and oversize bags, then this is the show for you. Khaite, a newcomer to NYFW, has showcased some amazing looks.
At the Khaite NYFW F/W 2019 show, there were dresses with very long, buoyant sleeves. There were clothes with almost hidden cutouts (under the armpit and on the back – similar to the Helmut Lang show). The dresses made me feel like we were in a different time.
Check out the show on youtube:
The setting, the outfits, the accessories (see the medallion style belts), the high collars on the shirts. It was a very well done show. There were her classic pieces on the runway too – jeans, sweaters and blouses.
I had a read about the show on Vogue, my first stop for anything Fashion Week related, and the information about the collection said:
The collection was titled The New Frontier, and Holstein said she was thinking about the turn of the 20th century in America, when women first began to travel alone and were beginning to join the suffragette movement. On the brink of a new era, it was an exciting—and sort of scary—time, not unlike how many of us are feeling in 2019. “Women need a voice that celebrates the strength of women right now, and, as a consumer, I think that was lacking,” Holstein said. “Especially here in America.” – Vogue (Catherine Holstein is the designer).
You can really see the similarity of the outfits to ones at the turn of the 20th Century – the sleeves, puffed up, are really reminiscent of the time. That over the top shoulder look with a cinched in waist.
Here are a couple of my favourite outfits:
I really like how wearable this collection is – with the more classic Khaite looks, they are easily worn.
