Marc Jacobs NYFW F/W 2019

I love simple and classic looks, with pieces that can be worn for a long time without it going out of style. But at the same time, I like those ‘out of the box’ ideas. That’s what I saw in the Marc Jacobs NYFW F/W 2019 show.
The show itself was beautiful, the atmosphere, the music, the clothes. It was all just so seamless.
The atmosphere: a spotlight, darkness and mirrored floor. All accompanied by a string quartet. With such a simple atmosphere, it really drew your attention purely to the clothes – the different features and diverse looks. A range of different materials, fabrics and patterns were shown!
That first look, the leopard print cape, was so beautiful. But what I also loved about this look – the details.
I love how, despite the classic and simple lines of a lot of the clothes, they always had something a little different to make them stand out. Some of the dresses had really dramatic sleeves that billowed out, other pieces, like a metallic suit, had a classic cut but the shimmery-material to make it different.

A standout feature of this look was the gigantic pussy bow!
Like I said above, this show had a mix of the classic style and the ‘out the box’ style. It was really fascinating to see the models at the end of the show because you really got to see how diverse the pieces were to one another.
The classic pieces really stood out because of the use of crinolines to shape the dresses, the capes were puffed out too. So although I say ‘classic’, they really were anything but!
There were the classic looks like the simple green turtleneck dress. It’s not just a really beautiful, classic cut, it’s a beautiful colour, and the bow at the back makes it a wow dress (for me at least). At first, I thought it was a bustle, but I’m pretty sure it’s a bow!
And these red boots really suited the cape. I love red boots, and I desperately need some, so I’m going to possibly splash out and get these! This was another really classic look, but there are always those hidden bits that really make the outfit stand out! For me, it was the boots. On further inspection, I can’t tell if they are red of tan!
And I think we all need a fluffy black and gold jacket in our lives. And did I mention, it sparkles in the light? It’s cut kind of reminds me of Chanel, perhaps it’s the structured look of it.
This mint green coat, that’s another coat I need in my wardrobe. It’s a really pretty colour, and you don’t see many in that colour. It’s a really simple shape, with the tie belt around the waist. But the colour is what really makes it a coat to look out for.
The colours in this look work together really well!

The blue cape reminds me of something..I just can’t remember what. It’ll come back to me one day!
And then I spotted Gigi! A lot of people, looking at youtube comments, don’t seem to like her. However, I think she’s really cool!
The ‘out the box’ dresses included party dress covered in feathers (I feel like Ginger Rogers would approve!), sparkly dresses, shredded tulle, to simple lines with massive sleeves.

An Oscars potential?

Sleeves are everything!

I love the brightness and happiness of this dress. It is gorgeous!

A Black Swan dress!

This kind of reminds me of an 80s prom dress. I love everything about it!

I like how over the top this is. I’d look ridiculous in it, but it’s fab!

I dare someone to wear this to the Oscars!

Another Black Swan dress.
Marc Jacobs really explores different looks. And I love the feather ones because I’ve loved feather dresses since watching Top Hat and seeing Ginger Roger’s beautiful feather dress. The headpieces were all designed by Stephen Jones.
Did any of them catch your eye?

P.S. I talk about fashion in my own uneducated terms. I have no idea what the proper terms are for anything, so I just make things up as I go along!

I really loved Gigi’s dress the most out of all these looks. I really love black, white, and grey. I’m not sure that I could pull off the dress due to our very different body types, but maybe if he made something with a slightly shorter cut for petite ladies. 🙂
It is such a gorgeous dress! I think she looks stunning! It would be so great if he did a petite range. Hopefully we’ll start seeing more designers making things with different body shapes and sizes in mind!
