Midweek Catchup: NYFW A/W 2019 Proenza Schouler Ready To Wear
I love this time of year, NYFW is definitely one of the things I make sure I watch or catch up on. I really enjoyed seeing the NYFW A/W 2019 Proenza Schouler collection.
Proenza Schouler’s show did not disappoint. The tailoring was very structured. Trench-style coats that were belted at the waist, suits, and dresses that were nipped in at the waist. A lot of the outfits came in at the waist, flared out, and finished at or below the knee.
Rather than lots of patterns, there were a lot of block colours. Mustard yellow, orange, green (almost a khaki colour), blue and beige. Black and white played quite a big part too, along with one see-through(?) trench.
A lot of the clothes that showed had cutouts at the armpit, on the shoulder, on the neckline, there was a lot of attention to detail, without them being too fussy. The material looked thick, I’m not exactly sure which materials were used, but it is for Autumn-Winter. Through looking at the photos, I can see that there were a lot of layers, buckles, belts etc. The boots that a lot of the models were wearing were square-toed (from what I can tell), which is quite popular at the moment.
I loved the oversized blazer with a pleated skirt, the colours and textures played together well, and it created the kind of look that I think a lot of people will like:
This layered trench coat is interesting too.
I’m not sure I’d be able to pull it off, but it’s a really cool piece! I love layered coats like this, especially how it’s pulled in at the waist. It stops it from being too oversized.
This whole black outfit seems, to me, to be in a military style.
I’m not sure if it’s a separate leather waistcoat type thing, or not. Does anyone know?
These four dresses I really like because they all have really different textures.
The yellow leather look one is a really standout colour. This colour seems to be really popular this year. The blue and orange ones look to be almost in knit material. The last one is another one that looks layered. I like the cut and style of all four, but my favourite one is probably the blue one.
I had to put this dress on its own, simply because it is stunning.
The cut, styling, the classic black and white are amongst the things I love about this dress. I really like the delicate straps. Although, I can’t tell if the stripes on the dress are like pinstripes – I need my eyes checked 😀 I really like how this one has pockets too! An instant winner!
Although I’m not someone to wear oversized cut clothes, I do really love these two suits.
The grey one because I love anything with a grey, checked pattern. I like the cream one because you can never go wrong with a suit like that. I really like the cut of the trousers for both of these – they provide a sort of look that can go from office to play.
Something I loved about this collection was the combinations of cut-outs and structured tailoring – it’s a really interesting look and I think it’s one that a lot of people will pick up. These outfits are definitely things that you can pick up and wear without having to make many changes, which is what I love about ready-to-wear collections.
Do you have a favourite designer you can’t wait to see at NYFW?
Carolina Herrera and Zadig and Voltaire.
P.S. I am not a professional at talking about Fashion Week – my opinions are uneducated 😀
