Mystery Blogger Award
Imagine my excitement when I woke up to see I’d been nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award. I’ve mentioned before that I love these awards because they are such a great way to get to know each other!
Thank you to Geraldine from Geraldine Talks and LJ from The Newbury Girl for the nominations – they are actually the most supportive and inspirational bloggers, and they have become great blogger friends!
Why was this award created?
“the ‘Mystery Blogger Award’ is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. 3 Random Facts About Me:
I like to think I’m pretty open on here, and I like to think that everyone knows everything about me (scary thought that). However, there are some things that people don’t know about me!
1) I love horses.
When I was younger I wanted nothing more than to live on a horse farm, own a horse or be able to horse ride every weekend. While horse riding at the weekend came true for a while, it is an expensive hobby and I haven’t been for ages. When I was about 14 or 15 (2004/5), my Christmas gift was a horse riding camp for a week at Pakiri, NZ. It was the best pressie ever and the only camp I was happy to go on! I’ve been on some pretty spectacular horse rides – one near Brisbane, Australia in 2005 and another near Palmerston North (NZ) in 2009. I would love to add a section on my blog about horse riding and different treks I’ve been on. That will be a work in progress though!
2) I have an unhealthy addiction to McVities Milk Chocolate Digestives.
Yes. I admit it. I am Kat and I am Chocolate Digestives-aholic. They are just so good and so yum and just make my world go round! You can buy them in New Zealand for an extortionate amount, but I’m so pleased that in the UK, where I am now, I can buy them for £1! YUM!!!
3) I was a child of the 90s.
I am 28. And that makes me feel like a really old person. I guess it feels like a lot of bloggers these days are much younger than me (and by much I mean 4-5 years!). Correct me if I’m wrong, but I could be a granny of the blogging world. Is anyone out there the same age, or older than me? So, child of the 90s. I loved: Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys but NSYNC won out every time, Jelly Shoes (the first time around), dungarees/overalls (the first time around), platform sneakers, platform sandals (I was the proud owner of a yellow floral pair), butterfly clips (yes, I’ve hoarded them and still own them to this day – got quite a collection), tattoo style choker necklaces (the first time around). I always identified as Posh Spice (coz I’m posh, yeah, innit). My Posh Side really came out when I lived in Essex.
So, there are three things you may not have known about me.
Questions from Geraldine:
1. What is one of your goals as a blogger for this year?
One of my goals would be to have more collaborations and grow my engagement. I do love the little community I’ve grown on here though, and I’d never want to lose that. To be honest, I’d rather have a small, engaged community than a large unengaged audience. Numbers only go so far!
2. Tea or coffee?
TEA. I’m a huge tea drinker. I generally drink herbal teas, Chamomile is a favourite. Although my ultimate favourite tea is Rooibos (Redbush), as it is caffeine free and is thirst quenching. I only drink non-caffeinated teas, as I am not allowed to drink caffeine anymore (caffeine makes my heart race to over 100 bpm = not fun). I also always drink my tea without milk.
3. What is (one of) your guilty pleasures?
I talked about McVities Milk Choc Digestives, but one of my big guilty pleasures is crisps. I LOVE CRISPS. I’ve actually been really good this year and cut down on my crisp intake, and I’ve noticed a huge difference in my body.
Another guilty pleasure is sampling a lot of perfume when I’m at the airport. It’s always a nice way to freshen up your travelling clothes (I usually go for Coco Chanel Mademoiselle, which is my favourite perfume and an almost empty of my perfume collection!).
4. What is something you’ve accomplished for your blog that you’re really proud of?
Having my first collaboration ever with Quay Australia. I never thought I’d get a collaboration as I never thought my blog was big enough or popular enough!
5. If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation. I used to think I’d like to be able to fly, but then I realised I was scared of heights. I must have looked like a right nutter as a child as I used to jump off the trampoline to the ground, flapping my arms in an effort to fly. Another one I would like to have would be time travel. I always wanted to be an archaeologist or anthropologist when I was younger – it fascinates me how people lived in the past. “I wanted to be an archaeologist so I became a teacher”.
Questions from LJ:
1. Who is the style or beauty icon that influenced you most?
There are a few people who have influenced me the most, in terms of style and beauty. I love the style of Lauren Bacall, Alexa Chung and Audrey Hepburn, but if I had to choose just one, Audrey Hepburn would win. She just seemed so classy, sophisticated, had amazing style and her cat-eye makeup was always on point. Not only was she beautiful on the outside, but she was also beautiful inside as well – she worked for UNICEF and had a pet deer.
2. Who was the last artist you saw in concert?
Haha, this makes me feel like an old person, but the last concert I went to was Michael Buble in 2014. Mickey Bubble is just super cute, has a great voice and I love his music (I like old stuff, ok?). I am also more of a musical person, so I’m more likely to go to a musical than I am a concert.
3. What is your proudest accomplishment?
Starting my teaching career at 21, moving overseas at 25 and moving again at 28. Travelling and moving by myself is a challenge at times, but it’s fun and I have really grown as a person. With teaching, I have really loved seeing children grow and click when they finally understand something. Seeing my own personal learning grow over the last 7 years has been amazing too!
4. Would you rather have the ability to communicate with animals or fly?
Communicate with animals of course! I’d love to be able to hold proper conversations with my dog.
5. Pick one: Netflix, Hulu, HBO, or YouTube.
This is a hard one. I love Netflix because of movies and TV shows. But Youtube is so good for style, fashion and beauty!
My questions for you:
If you could have any job, what would it be?
What is your favourite genre of music?
Are you an outdoors or indoors person?
If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
What do you love the most about blogging?
My best post (aka, the ones I like the most):
Myanmar was an absolutely wonderful place to go – so new (to visitors), beautiful, friendly people. It was so different from other SEA countries I’ve visited and definitely somewhere I would like to revisit one day! Highlights of Myanmar.
This is one of my earliest posts – it is all about my obsession with grey trousers (an obsession I still have to this day). It’s not one of my best posts, but I remember writing it. The mems.
I love women empowerment and feminism. Here’s one of my favourite posts that I’ve written about that topic: You can’t be a feminist if you wear revealing clothes.
