So, I enrolled to do my postgrad!

Spread the love

This is so super exciting! I enrolled to do my postgrad at Massey University in Auckland. I will be doing a Postgraduate Diploma of Education (Literacy Leadership)

To start with, it will just be to get a Postgraduate Diploma. Then, if I want to I can do another year of study and get my Masters. I’m so excited about this because I feel like it’s a great way to further my career, and to also challenge myself in a new way.

Like I said before, I haven’t had the time to go and study again, as I’ve been working full time for 7 years.

Now that I am finished at my current school, I will have some time off before I head overseas. Of course, I will do some supply teaching during that time, just so I have an income.

I decided to do the postgrad part-time. This means that I will do one paper a year (they are 30 points each). It is also by distance learning which means I can do all the work online.

I can’t wait to get the textbooks too!

I love English, so this postgrad focus is really perfect for me. I’ve always loved identifying learning difficulties in regards to English e.g. if a student is struggling with reading, how can I help them? What pedagogies and readings can I do to find more information. How can I encourage a reluctant reader or writer to continue to work hard in English?

I also really love the creativeness of Literacy – there are so many fun ways you can teach English to the kids, through drama, dance, encouraging them to become playwrights. The list is endless! I love seeing my students go from being reluctant authors to excited about their stories and their writing.

Something I always tell them is:

The more that you read, the more that you know, the more that you know, the more places you’ll go!

I’m so very passionate about education, and I truly believe that everyone deserves a great education.

And a final photo from Ronny Chieng, International Student. This makes me laugh every time I see it. It gets even better when this hipster takes the bun off the top of his head and it’s like a little man bun wig.

What is a new goal you have set yourself for 2019?
